What a week . . .

So much for the daily posts eh? Took a week or so off due to crazy life issues. It almost seems that anytime I'm committed to doing something, life throws me a curveball and fucks it all up. Anyhow, I'm back now and drama free (for now . . .), so here's today's sketch!

This is a sketch that I drew up for a buddy of mine who runs Misunderstandings Between Friends.

MuBF is a daily webcomic, and it's awesome. He needed a Guest Strip for Monday, here's hoping he likes it! Anyway, check out his web comic and let him know what you think. Later!

Old Sketch Day

Every wonder where old kids show mascots go to die? Me too. This was a sketch I did for a thread at General Any Topic where we occassionally do "Draw My Character" threads. The idea of the thread is that you draw up an original character, for others to re-draw in their own style. Likewise, you can redraw any previous characters however you see fit. This is still one of my favorite personal sketches. As with any sketch, I still see a lot of things that I'd like to change about it, but I think part of learning to draw is to accept your mistakes and learn from them.

Since this isn't actually a "new" sketch, I'll probably put up another later. I wanted to make sure I still hit my midnight deadline though, and since it's the 4th of July, I'll probably be away from the comp until well past midnight. Old for me, but new to you! Lemme know what you think.

Haunting Visage

Todays sketch, comes from that of a 3 year olds recent nightmares. My daughter has had trouble sleeping the past few nights due to a "monster" in her dreams. As a father, I want to do everything in my power to make her feel safe. This is new ground for me however. I've had nightmares in the past, but I've never known a way to "deal" with them. I just push past them and try to move on.

Of course, my daughter doesn't quite understand that type of thought process yet, so I had her sit down and describe it to me. The creature above is my best rendition of what she said. I'm hoping that getting it out in the open will ease her worries. I also sketched it in front of her to show her that it's all just the power of imagination and that there's no way it could harm her. Did it work? So far, she hasn't woken up crying yet, so here's hoping.

Being a parent is a strange and fantastic thing. You learn stuff every day and you grow along with your spawn. It truly is the greatest adventure.

Mental Child

Working in a Customer Service based job, you get to see a lot of different types of people. I'm constantly amazed by the overwhelming stupidity found in this town(and others). They do however, prove to be great subjects most of the time when it comes to art. This particular kid, had a crazy egg-shaped head and was shooting stuff with some sort of invisible finger ray.

Normally, that may be cute, but the kid had an credible mouth on him. As a father myself, and one that has never spanked or struck my child, I had an incredible urge to punt kick this brat across the store. Back talking his mom, throwing shit on the floor, screaming, kicking . . . the child was a complete terror.

The problem though, is that it's not entirely his fault. His parents were complete pushovers and allowed him to run wild. Their children for gods sake. It's really not that difficult to keep them in line.

Ugh, this is only one side to bad parenting that I see daily, the other is the people who let their kids sit in the basket portion of the cart and ignore them. Countless times I've seen a child fa;; out and smash their head into the hard linoleum. It's heartbreaking to see. There are warnings all over the cart, and I'm sure common sense has to kick in, but they do it anyway because they've decided that they need to be their childs friend first, and parent later.

But, I digress, no amount of venting or complaining will fix anything. It's depressing to see the world in the state it is though. That's all for now.

Visitors from below

This is an idea I had for some sort of subterranean monster. Apparently they know Kung-Fu.

Very short post for the day, but at least I'm keeping to half of the agreement to myself. I'm drawing.
